Recent Developments
Bytes
& Pieces has recently moved to new premises. The move has helped us to
better organize our office, workshop and warehouse. Most importantly, we now
have more capacity to service our clients and maintain our position as the
leader in IT in Mozambique.
In 2004, Bytes & Pieces became the only Certified Microsoft Partner in Mozambique. The certification program involves a stringent set of requirements, including certification of technicians, appraisal of the company capabilities and demonstration of the company knowledge of Microsoft product, both in terms of sales and after-sales technical support.
We are proud to be associated with Microsoft and we assure you that with this certification, our commitment to our clients and their needs is higher than ever before.
New Products
Dell has announced the introduction of the new "800" series of servers. Both in tower and rack form, the servers use a new, common architecture throughout the line to minimize configuration and support issues.
Another new product that will be launched shortly into our region is the Optiplex 170L with both a micro-tower and desktop form factor. The new 170L is geared toward the small business that is still interested in an acquisition price, but willing to trade off some of the hardware platform features that lower the total cost of ownership in the Optiplex GX280 series of desktop computers.

Projects
Bytes & Pieces has just completed network installations for the following clients:
Deparamento Nacional de Carvões e Hidrocarbonetas (DNCH)
This is the first stage of this network, with a 3 server solution at this stage of implementation on a complete Microsoft platform. Three Dell PowerEdge servers have been configured with Microsoft 2003 Server, Exchange 2003 Server and ISA 2004. In the future, additional application servers will be added for database applications that are being developed. This was a complete turnkey solution and all facets of the network were undertaken by Bytes & Pieces, including cabling with Legrand networking products and MGE UPS protecting the network power.
Universidade Técnica de Moçambique (UDM)
This network was designed and configured specifically to the specifications of UDM and incorporates a variety of technologies and software. All the workstations are running ThisStation, a linux based thin client and connecting to a Dell PowerEdge server running Microsoft Terminal Services. A second Dell PowerEdge server is running RedHat Linux Enterprise Server for mail and other services. For security and VPN connections, a MultiTech RF660VPN firewall was installed.
